Overview
Himachal Pradesh is a state that is known for its natural beauty and trekking trails. The Hampta Pass Trek is one of the best treks in India and offers an incredible experience for trekkers. The Hampta Pass trek is situated at 14,000 ft, presenting a rare yet spectacular crossing in the Himalayan range.
The ascent to Hampta Pass is not very steep and the terrain is quite flat throughout. The trail has a combined distance of 35 km, making it feasible for novice hikers as well as those with extensive hiking experience. This walk must be completed over the course of five days. After you have over the mountain, you will enter the Spiti Valley, which is famous for its arid and desolate environment, as well as the clear blue sky that surrounds it.
On one side, you can view the lush green Kullu Valley, full of forests, grasslands and blooming flowers on the trail path. The other side features Lahaul’s stark and nearly arid scenery due to the bare mountains and scant vegetation. When you get onto the most stunning views of the Himalayas surrounded by towering peaks, lush green forests, meadows and waterfalls, the trek would be a rather worthwhile adventure for your trip in Himachal Pradesh.
The Hampta Pass Trek is an easy to moderately challenging journey that can be completed in five days, reaching the maximum height of 14000 ft. It is located in the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas. The first high-altitude campsite on the journey is Chika, which is tucked away at an elevation of 10,000 ft. However, because it’s only about 2 km from Jobra, it doesn’t strain your stamina as much.
It is said that the Hampta Pass hike is the greatest summer hike in all of Himachal Pradesh. It has a striking resemblance to the Valley of Flowers Trek in many respects. It provides a stunning contrast of the many different Himalayan landscapes. On the side that faces Kullu, its scenery is characterised by lush meadows, woodlands, and flower bloom; on the side that faces Lahaul, its landscape is characterised by roughness and aridity. You will get the opportunity to see the beautiful Chandratal Lake while you are out on the trip.
You can witness a wide range of flora and fauna and rare opportunities for the beautiful encounter of species like the Himalayan Monal and musk deer. Due to the varied topography in the region, the path is extremely rich in water sources, and the trail is dotted with pine, green maple trees and birch trees. You would go along the stream of Rani Nallah river to Balu Ka Ghera, then enjoy the panoramic view of the snow-clad mountains of Siagoru before trekking to Chatru. Finally, end your journey at Manali, bringing home sweet memories. Visit other beautiful holiday destination like Stok Kangri Trek, Mayali Pass Trek, and many more.
Complete Itinerary
You will be hiking for the whole of today's day. The slope of the day's hike is mild, and the route is rocky and littered with rocks. By staying on the left bank of the Rani River, you will be able to make your way to Balu ka Ghera. The path will eventually lead you to an incredible grove of rhododendron trees as you continue to stroll through the woods. This swath is located in the bottom part of the region, and if you go further, you will reach an area that is covered with silver birch trees. When you glance back from where you are standing among the silver birch trees and see the spectacular mountain range of Dhauladhar peaks coated in snow, it is the most beautiful sight of the day. You won't have to go far before you come across a waterfall, and once you do, you'll be able to fill up your water bottles there. Jwara is the location of the following stop. After moving farther away from the river and negotiating the narrow stream, you will finally arrive at this point. Jwara is rather close to where you would set your tent. The mountains on one side of this breathtaking valley are blanketed with snow, while the other side has deep canyons. You will see a tree line receding behind you as you continue to gain altitude as you go. The path and the areas around it are covered with an eye-catching variety of vibrant blooms. The Jwara is the name of the hiking path, and it has a gradual ascent that is covered with snow and rocks. After completing this obstacle course, you will arrive at your campground. Even though it's in the heart of the mountains, the campground is level.
Today is the day when you will go to Hampta Pass and make the crossing. The walk begins with a climb up to the pass, after which it begins a descent into Siagoru. The walk begins with an ascent in the general direction of several mountains. The path runs along the river, which makes both the trek and the view along the river particularly spectacular and gratifying. As you continue trekking, you will eventually come to the ascent that leads to the pass. The terrain is adorned with swaths of snow here and there, and at the higher elevations, there is total blanketing of the country with snow. You will get a clear view of the summit of Deo Tibet right in front of you. The ascent will take you through a couple plateaus and hills, which will need some careful footwork. Take a tonne of photographs and movies from this vantage point so that you may look back on the experience and smile. The last few metres leading up to the Hampta Pass include a steep ascent, which makes reaching the pass rather challenging and taxing. On the other hand, traversing the steep ascent won't take more than a quarter of an hour. Even though you will be exhausted, the breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere will invigorate you. This is the ideal location to have your lunch, take some time to relax, and be captivated by the natural splendour that surrounds you. The most difficult and challenging descent begins at the pass. The majority of hikers descend by either sliding down the rock face or climbing down the rope. Before reaching the valley below that leads to the campground Siagoru, the descent takes around an hour and a half to complete in its entirety. The location of the campground is once again right next to the river.
The journey from Siagoru to Chatry takes around five hours and is composed mostly of an easy descent. The path gradually descends while passing through the mountains that are all around and along the river stream. The terrain here is rather different from the ones you have been travelling through up to this point. These mountains are rugged and featureless, and there is no flora to be found here. The path travels around treacherous slopes and edges of the mountains, some of which are very slippery. When you place your feet, do so with caution and awareness. However, the difficulty of this day's gradient is low. You will get your first glimpse of Chatru from a far away, and you can see the Chandra River swaying below and to the side of the road. This walk is fairly full of variation in terms of hiking, thanks to the fact that the day includes glacier crossing. After completing the glacier hike, you will arrive at the Chatru campground. After reaching Chatru we will board the vehicle to explore Chandratal and get back by evening to Chatru again. We will have rest, dinner and stay for the night in Chatru.
After breakfast today we will drive towards Rohtang Pass, which is a classic mountain pass. If you want to avoid being caught in a traffic congestion, you should start your trip as early in the morning as possible. The car ride is extensive and takes around 7 hours to reach Manali, which is the final destination of the trekking trip.
